Today we welcome Wonthaggi in what shapes as a real important set of matches for us Redlegs. The Power are under pressure to maintain a spot in the top 3 and it is our duty to win and keep the heat on the contenders. A win and a sing would be a great boost in belief for us. Our A’s are in a similar position and a breakthrough win today would be enormous.
Elsewhere, our 16’s footyers are having the day off whilst our 13’s & 15’s netballers are in finals-like games. The latter being akin to an elimination final. Our 17’s can help shape the 5 with a win today whilst our C’s are a big show for win #2. Our B’s continue to cling to 5th spot and finishing the season with two wins is the only way to ensure a finals berth. The 3rds must win and win well to maintain top 3 status. Two wins could see the 2’s scrape into the top 5 and from there anything is possible.
It may be round 17 but there’s still plenty to play out in the home & aways this season.
Tonight following our matches and post-game presentations, its our annual Reverse Draw. Prizes are $2,000- for the last ticket out, a Holiday in Darwin valued at $1,700- and $1,000- for 3rd last ticket out. The good news is, if you want more chances to win, you can buy more tickets at $50- each. Hot beef rolls will be served and limited beer & wine which is included with your ticket purchase. There'll also be an auction of items on the night including a 65' TV and signed AFL/NRL memorabilia featuring Western Bulldogs, Essendon & Melbourne Storm. Plenty of fun and laughs to be had along the way so we'd love it you can make yourself available to attend.
Our thoughts and good wishes are with Archer Watt for his strong recovery after a sickening, onfield collision last week. It’s been tough week for Mum & Dad too and our thoughts are with them also.
Our Youth Girls’ footy team has had a great season however they’ve now packed their gear away for the year. We finished 7th (just out of the 6 team finals series) after Sunday’s loss v Traralgon. We’ve shown great improvement and had many terrific wins and highlights throughout. We also showed we can match it with any of those top 6 teams.
Our girls did a fair bit of travel to compete in the Gippsland wide competition and coach Gudgy’s bus driving skills were vital to getting a team on the park each week. The whole Youth Girls outfit including coaches, managers, parents & supporters are to be commended for their commitment. We’ll retain the majority of our list with two players ageing out and moving on. There’s already an expectation & a buzz in the air about season 2023.
Challenge Yourself. Good luck to all players and teams.
Go Redlegs.
